Reason gets my vote with its software versions of Drum Machines, Samplers and Synths that you simply drop in to the rack and use like the real thing. There are various alternatives, however, which can be used in Windows and Mac both. It includes a huge sound bank with a load of presets/samples and software versions of synths (that look just like real synths) so it's pretty cool to mess around with them too. Windows has no built in DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) like the Mac has with GarageBand. It is a powerful yet easy-to-use app that is perfect for both beginners and professionals. It looks intimidating at first (because the interface is designed to look like a studio rack) but once you figure out the basics it is very simple to begin making sounds - and fairly powerful. Sony Acid Pro is fairly similar to garageband in that it has alot of loops etc, though i was never very fond of it. There are definitely options on this list that are more immediately intuitive, but if you’re up for a challenge, Cakewalk is easily the most powerful free Garageband for Windows alternative in 2022. Presumably no one's speaking about Audacity because, although it is a decent way to record vocals and instruments, it doesn't offer any of the functionality that garageband does in the creating music department - it is simply recording software. LMMS has been a surprise breakout hit in the free DAW space, and we can only guess it’s because a) it’s good, and b) it works a lot like FL Studio making it a viable FL alternative.
